The Delaware Valley Arts Alliance wants you to make a trailer for the 8th annual Big Eddy Film Festival, held September 20-22, 2019 at the Tusten Theatre in Narrowsburg, NY. The 30-second trailer will be used to promote the upstate New York festival online and in other media, and will run on the big screen prior to each film festival screening. 


The competition will be judged by Ben Younger, director of The Boiler Room (2000), Prime (2005), and Bleed for This (2016). 


Any person can participate in the contest. Entries from individuals or teams of individuals will be accepted. 


The trailer must promote the Big Eddy Film Festival as a September destination for film lovers in upstate NY (specifically the Sullivan County Catskills region). Presented by the Delaware Valley Arts Alliance, BEFF was established in 2011 to showcase new independent feature films, documentaries, shorts and animated films from around the world and our own backyard. The BEFF emphasize films that advance the art of cinematic storytelling, showcasing stories that are fresh, thought-provoking, and defy expectations.


The trailer should promote the Big Eddy Film Festival, presented by the Delaware Valley Arts Alliance. We ask that your submission include the following elements

  • The official BEFF logo and 2019 dates (September 20 - 22) 
  • Include copy "Presented by the Delaware Valley Arts Alliance"
  • Incorporate the art of cinematic storytelling. 
  • Feel free to use humor, local scenery, motion graphics, animation, dance, or any other element to convey the spirit of the Big Eddy Film Festival. 
  • Any music included in the soundtrack must be original, and used with permission. 
  • As far as content, anything goes, just keep it appropriate for all audiences. 
  • High quality video and audio production is required.

Please do not include a credit roll or credits page in the 30-second trailer. Credits will be given in text accompanying the trailer online and at the festival itself.


The length of the trailer must be exactly 30 seconds. 


16:9 (wide screen) aspect ratio preferred. 


All entries must be submitted via the Submittable application by midnight on Friday, August 2, 2019. No extensions will be granted. 


All submissions must complete the application on Submittable.com. Video files may be either uploaded or a links to your trailer via Vimeo or YouTube are accepted. Please use password-protected links to ensure privacy of the video until the winner is announced. On-line submissions only. Include the password (where appropriate) and make the file available anytime. 


The winning trailer will need to be supplied to DVAA as a ProRes Quicktime file (.mov) by August 1, 2019. The preferred video format (codec) is Apple ProRes 4:2:2 Standard or h.264. Both in a .mov wrapper (.mp4 is not recommended). File can be delivered as a download or on a hard drive.

The trailer must be appropriate for all audiences and may not contain gratuitous sex, violence, or offensive language.


The trailer you submit must reflect your own work and may not make use of any copyrighted material in any form (including music).


In addition to having your trailer played during the 8th annual Big Eddy Film Festival, the winner will receive two all access passes to the 2019 Big Eddy Film Festival and a $500 cash prize, presented at opening night of the festival.

Two finalists will also have their trailers screened at the opening night of the festival and receive free passes to that screening.


Submissions will be screened by the team at the Big Eddy Film Festival and advance finalists to be reviewed  by Ben Younger, director of The Boiler Room (2000), Prime (2005), and Bleed for This (2016). 

Submissions will be judged based on their originality, technical proficiency and their ability to capture the spirit of the film festival. DVAA reserves the right to accept or reject any or all of the contest entries.
