Scholarship: Dr. Barry & Jane Bodenstein Music Scholarship

The Dr. Barry & Jane Bodenstein Music Scholarship is a scholarship for a high school senior in the Sullivan West School District who has demonstrated a high level of aptitude in music, and maybe considering (but is not required to consider) further formal music education on the college level.

Delaware Valley Arts Alliance (DVAA) offers this scholarship in memory of Dr. Barry Bodenstein, an admired community leader and chiropractor from Jeffersonville, NY, who was an avid percussionist, and his wife, Jane, a former member of DVAA's Board of Directors and activist in many other civic organizations.
One music advancement scholarship in the amount of $500 will be awarded annually, given a suitable candidate.

Candidates must complete an application online on Submittable.com and upload their three-five minute solo which must be at  New York State School Music Association   (NYSSMA) Level VI or higher.
For 2024, scholarship auditions will be held in-person at DVAA on TBD. Alternate accommodations can be made for those who can not attend in person. A copy of the sheet music is to be uploaded within the application as a PDF.

The Delaware Valley Arts Alliance (DVAA), a 501(c)3 non-profit membership organization, grew out of a grass roots movement to make the arts central to rural life. It was founded in 1976 by a group of citizens and arts professionals who were committed to developing, nurturing, presenting, and promoting the arts and artists.

Scholarship: The Stanley J. Segal Scholarship for Visual Arts

Eligibility: Graduating Seniors from Sullivan County and Wayne County High Schools
Focus: Visual Art
The Stanley J. Segal Scholarship for Visual Arts, established by Sheldon Soffer in memory of Stanley J. Segal, is being offered by Delaware Valley Arts Alliance, the arts council for Sullivan County, NY.
Stanley J. Segal (1926 – 2009) had been a Hunter College professor, a clinical psychologist in private practice, an art lover, and a dedicated member of the Board of Directors of Delaware Valley Arts Alliance.
The scholarship is meant to assist high school seniors in Sullivan County, NY and Wayne County, PA who wish to pursue advanced studies in the visual arts, including painting, drawing, printmaking, sculpture, photography, film, and video. One scholarship of $500 will be awarded.

Applicants must submit a completed application by Midnight on April 30, 2024 via Submittable.com along with the following items:
• Brief bio - tell us about yourself!
• Narrative of advanced study - what do you want to do in the arts?
• Work samples and sample list - show us your artwork and describe them to us (title, medium, and date)

Welcome! This is the application form for the 2024 Mini Grants, which are an extension of the Arts for Sullivan Grant Cycle, for Sullivan County in New York State. The grant program is administered by the Delaware Valley Arts Alliance (DVAA), whose mission it is to advance the arts in the region through the support and encouragement of artists, innovative programs, advocacy, and alliances with arts organizations, businesses, and government.


The goals of the Mini Grants are to:

 

  • Provide access to funding through a simplified application to first-time applicants to encourage access to the arts throughout all of Sullivan County.
  • Simplified application



Rolling Deadline - Applicants are required to complete and submit an application to be considered for funding. Early submissions are encouraged.  In order to submit an application for a Project Grant, we suggest that you carefully review our guidelines to determine your organization or project's eligibility for funding.

Technical Assistance For technical assistance in using Submittable or uploading forms, please visit Submittable's FAQ page.  Each time you work on an application, you can save it as a draft for 21 days. During that time, you may return to work on your entry before the deadline by signing in to Submittable. The 21-day time-frame is renewed each time you work on the application. Upon your final submission, you will receive a confirmation email, with a link where you will be able to view your submission. Once submitted, you will not be able to make changes to your document. If there is a major issue or change in your submitted materials, please contact DVAA directly.
